area. that's just weeks after elementary school shootings in connecticut. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec finds out why gun shows are more popular now than ever. >> i'm not into gangster style. >> reporter: it's hunting that interests barbara thompson, who came to the cross roads of the west gun show at the cow palace for ammunition. >> i live on a ranch. i have critters that i have to protect. i have a family i have to protect. >> reporter: and she says ammo is hard to come by these days. several types sold out on day one of this show. >> drove all the way down here, stood in line for an hour. that's how bad it is. >> reporter: demand for all things gun related has hit unprecedented levels, since lawmakers started talking about harsher gun laws in the wake of several mass shootings, like the one at sandy hook elementary last month. >> i want to see -- get whatever i can before anything changes. >> we were expecting a large crowd, but we had no anticipation that we would have a crowd like this. >> reporter: they wouldn't let the media inside the building,

but with an estimated crowd of 18,000 by the time the weekend's over, it was packed inside. >> pretty much knew we weren't going to be able to get any ammo. the lines are long inside. >> reporter: some lawmakers want stricter rules on ammo sale. >> right now, it's so easy for anyone to buy bullets. doesn't matter age, even though there's restriction. >> reporter: gun enthusiasts feel tightening the laws is an indirect attack on the second amendment, which has them stocking up, if they can. >> i have three or four guns, can't get ammo for them. am i going to throw it at them? >> reporter: sunday is the final day of the cross roads of the west gun show. it runs here at the cow palace from 9:00 to 4:00 p.m. in daly city, anne makovec, cbs 5. a feud between several gangs has left four people dead in oakland. police say three men and a teenage boy were gunned down over six hours last night. an oakland police spokeswoman says the shootings are linked

to specific groups. while police are investigating, no arrests have been made. oakland had 131 homicides last year. so far, there are sixth year. police say four in one day is unusual. and the violence continued today. oakland police say three more people were hit by gunfire. the shootings happened on harr monde avenue near seminary avenue just before 1:00 this afternoon. all three people are expected to survive. no word if they are connected to last night's violence. 68 people were victims of homicide last year. a memorial walk began today at st. anthony's church, continuing through the mission district. participants carried crosses symbolizing each one of those killed. one man who walked had a personal reason for taking part. >> i spent 23 1/2 years incarcerated because i took a person's life.

and to -- to hold this cross in honor of someone whose life was taken for me is very powerful. just trying to give back as much as i can. i can't, i can't reverse the pain that i've caused. but i can try and do what i can in the community to help. >> the walk was organized by the catholic archdiocese ministries for victims and families of violent crime. bishop william justice led the walk. authorities in petaluma have identified the body of a man found in a recycling center. the sonoma county sheriff's office says the body of 30-year- old luis gomez diaz was found by an employee early friday afternoon. investigators say there are no obvious signs of trauma to his body, but they are still calling the death suspicious. they say it looks like his body was in a dumpster emptied by a recycling truck. deputies sago messes diaz was

effect. 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to 8:00 a.m. then the areas that are not encompassed by the red means we have a frost advisory in effect. anne, we still have colder temperatures tonight. we'll talk about it more, coming up. >> thank you. the san francisco 49ers are an hour and a half into their first playoff game against green bay at candlestick. and fans all over the bay area are watching, hoping that this will be the niners' year. cbs 5 reporter don knapp is at ireland's bar in san francisco, where the faithful are gathered. don? >> reporter: you know, anne, the irish faithful, but they are not watching football or soccer or anything like that. they are watching the 49ers! and of course with the game going as it is, they have good reason to cheer! [ cheers & applause ] >> reporter: they were groaning and cheering, as green bay scores first in the playoff game. fans here at ireland's are not faint at heart. >> it's been incredible, being here in the middle of all of

weather is hidden in bay sunny skies may have chased away recent rain storms, but a

very real danger from the wet weather is hidden in bay area hillsides. one of those saturated slopes is turning into a landslide, threatening the lawrence berkeley national lab. lab employees are now in a race against time. >> reporter: this landslide at the lawrence berkeley national laboratory has evacuated building 46, closing a stretch of mcmillan road, displacing 160 employees. >> late, late november or early december, we had a storm come into the bay area where it dumped a lot of rain in a very short period of time. >> the type of bed rock that we have in the bay area is generally relatively weak compared to other parts of the state. >> reporter: ron ruben of the california geological survey explains why it's not safe, even on a sunny day like this. >> the longer you go into the season, the greater that risk becomes, because the ground has absorbed that much more water. >> reporter: that makes the

ground heavy and can create a scene like this, a massive landslide in southern california. the building is directly in the way of all the land coming down. relocating all of their employees, tools, instruments and records scientists use will not be easy. >> you can't do it like in four hours. you can't do it in one day. >> reporter: a number of outside specialists, including the usgs are involved to stabilize the area until they are sure that building 46 is safe from danger. >> it's going to take a lot of time. contra cos . a norovirus outbreak is suspected of sickening dozens of kids at a bay area school. contra costa health officials say they are looking into now 90 students at burton valley elementary in lafayette got sick with symptoms similar to norovirus. those symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pains. the school says the campus is being disinfected this weekend and classes will be held on

marks the one year anniversary of the deadly costa concordia accide y. . tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of the deadly costa concordia accident off the coast of italy. one year later, the ship remains sub americaned. family members are gathering for ceremonies to honor the 32 people who died when the luxury liner slammed into a reef and capsized. more than 400 people are still working around the clock to remove the ship. the plan is to move the ship onto a huge underwater platform and crews will attach steel floats to keep it from sinking again. they are hoping it will work. >> we cannot promise what has not been proven before. it's never been attempted before, to handle a vessel in this position. >> tomorrow's salvage crews will stop work and observe a moment of silence. as part of tomorrow's ceremonies, a piece of the rock that tore apart the ship's hull will be returned to the reef, along with a plaque

commemorating the victims. another aviation mishap at san carlos airport, the second in less than a week and another pilot walks away unhurt. the 56-year-old pilot was flying in from san luis abyss bow on business and had no idea his landing gear was still up until he hit the runway. the man was the only person on board and did not need medical attention. the accident closed the airport until the plane could be removed from the runway. last week also at the san carlos airport, this small plane overshot the runway last monday, ended up nose-down in a pond. the pilot and passenger walked away unhurt. the sheriffs deputy said the pilot may have been going too fast when he tried to land. we're talking about cold temperatures. chilly tonight, but not the coldest? >> no, tomorrow night will be the coldest. last night was remarkable because every reporting station had temperatures into the 20s and 30s, except for one. san francisco had an overnight low of 40 degrees.

i find that suspect, because i checked the temperature at 8:00 this morning and it was 34 in san francisco. so there. all right. this is san francisco, coit tower aglow, honoring the san francisco 49ers. current air temperature has been dropping very quickly now that the sun has set. by the time it comes back up tomorrow morning at 7:26, these numbers will be well into the 20s and 30s. currently 41 degrees in livermore, san jose. mid-40s in redwood city, back and through palo alto. check this out. colder tonight than last night. 26 in livermore. mid-20s fairfield, discovery bay, rio vista. 28 degrees, san jose, penn grove. also mid-20s napa, sonoma, glenn ellen. upper 20s, redwood city. it's cold. this red highlighted area reflects where we have yet another freeze warning for the third consecutive morning in a row for inland areas. most of the bay area, again, tumbling to just about that

freezing point. protect your pets, pipes and your plants. high pressure firmly in place, not going anywhere very quickly. but we still have a lot of cool air mass sagging into the entire state of california. so the cold snap will continue with tonight's overnight lows subfreezing, tomorrow night even colder. then we begin to moderate somewhat. check out the seven-day forecast coming up. first things first. today, partly sunny skies being replaced. tomorrow, full-on sunshine. 51 degrees in sacramento. 48 degrees fresno. 27 degrees in tahoe after this morning starting off 9 below zero. tonight, 10 below zero. 51 degrees at monterey bay, through pebble beach. tomorrow's daytime highs, 40s and 50s. the temp range, only about 47 degrees in hayward to 53 degrees in santa rosa. meanwhile, check out your seven- day forecast. again, a couple of degrees cooler tomorrow night, overnight. so another frosty start for monday morning. then the temperatures begin to

. well, the early game seen here on cbs 5 was really good disclaim. >> it went on and on like the energizer bunny. in fact, went so long our fifth quarter post game show was pre- empted. it was great. two hall of famers on both sides of the ball. peyton manning hoping to lead denver to a win. manning trying to stay warm in denver. not a low-scoring game like many expected. 21-21 at half time. fans who took a bathroom break did not even have a chance to

settle into their seats, when trindon holliday returned his second special teams touchdown of the game, this for 104 yards and the broncos back up on top by 7. fast forward to the fourth. ravens down by 7. 3rd down, flacco, bomb's away for jacoby jones behind the quarterback, and the safety raheem morris, 70-yard touchdown to tie the game. and we go to overtime. one minute in ot, nobody's scored yet. manning, chase, throws, across his body, ticked off, his second of the day. overtime would run out. in the second overtime, justin tucker boots the game-winning field goal. the ravens win it 38-35 and ray lewis gets to play in at least one more game. >> one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. you know, for us to come in here and confuse them the way we did and make the plays we did, you know, give up two big special teams touchdowns, the

bottom line is we kept fighting through the race! alongside cbs 5 football analyst andre carter, formerly of the 49ers, currently with the oakland raiders. and first, ray lewis moves on, incredible career, seemingly will not end. >> it was a great game. i had my money on the ravens, of course. >> you did. >> we were kind of butting heads! but i think in general, with ray lewis, what he brings to the organization, to the franchise, his passion. everybody knew this would be his last year, so what better way to beat the broncos and continue on to the ofc championship. >> i don't know if they beat the broncos or peyton manning beat the broncos. manning had three turnovers that were converted into 17 points, including the game- winning field goal. manning is not good in cold weather. >> no. >> in fact, he's 0-4 now with temperatures under 40 degrees. was that a difference for him? >> you know what? i think it was mind over matter. don't get me wrong, in the first half he played a

tremendous game. despite the turnover that he had in the first quarter. however, we always say being a defensive player, turnover circuit is always important. ravens, the ravens won that battle and they were very successful. >> andre carter came into the post game show because of the length of the game, never got on. but 1:30 into the newscast is better than nothing. that's andre carter, cbs 5 football analyst. . former cal star shawn lindley got himself a court sight seat, cal hosting washington state. cal took a 29-27 lead at intermission. second half, justin cobb off the screen, the elbow jump shot, good. it was a close game throughout the afternoon, but in the end, wallace again. the freshman off the bench, had a career high 16. cal pulls away, winning 67-54 and improved to 2-2 in the pac- 10. santa clara welcoming in byu this afternoon. first half, broncos down 6.

welcome to "eye on the bay." i'm thuy vu. tonight we are going to take you all over the bay area on a tour of some fascinating farms. we'll show you where to wine and dine on the farmscape in the hills of napa. an urban farm in the heart of san francisco. it's on an old freeway ramp. and we'll introduce you to a few people who can help bring the farm to you, backyard chickens and worms. but we are starting in bonny doon near santa cruz with alpacas! >> look at this guy. here's the guy who wrote the book on alpacas. eric hoffman is getting friendly. >> for the moment. [ laughter ] >> what got you into alpacas? >> actually i owned llamas back in the 1970s. i used to be an avid backpacker. and i started backpacking with llamas. we had the first alpacas in the united states.
